How can Arsenal win Premier League? Title race permutations, what Gunners need to be champions ahead of Man City | Sporting News United Kingdom

The 2023/24 Premier League title race will go to the wire.

Arsenal’s narrow victory over Manchester United ensured Manchester City cannot be crowned champions before matchday 38.

The Gunners fell short a few weeks out from the final day last year, but they are still very much in the race to be crowned champions for the first time in two decades.

City responded with a tense 2-0 win in their game in hand at Tottenham on Tuesday. It means Pep Guardiola’s men are back on top heading into the final day of the season, when both sides will have the benefit of playing in front of their home fans against teams with relatively little left at stake.

Arsenal are unquestionably the outsiders at this point, but what do they need to happen to win the title for the first time since Arsene Wenger’s ‘Invincibles’? The Sporting News runs through the permutations below.

How can Arsenal win Premier League?

With one match left to play in their 2023/24 Premier League campaign, it is still possible for Arsenal to end the season as champions.

Their 1-0 win over Manchester United moved them back to the top of the table, but Erling Haaland’s second-half brace at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, along with some heroics from substitute goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, means City have a two-point advantage.

What do Arsenal need to happen to become Premier League champions in 2024?

The equation is now very simple. If City beat West Ham on the final day Guardiola’s team will be champions for a record fourth successive season.

Anything else, and it’s back up for grabs. If City fail to beat West Ham and Sunday’s game ends with Arsenal victorious against Everton the 20-year wait will be over and the Gunners will have a fourth Premier League title.

Even if City draw, an Arsenal victory would be enough for Arteta’s team to claim the title on goal difference because they go into the final weekend one goal better off.

When is the Premier League final day 2023/2024?

The 2023/24 Premier League season concludes on Sunday, May 19. In the interest of fairness, all 10 matches kick off at the same time: 4 p.m. BST (11 a.m. ET).
