Anna Kalinskaya v Victoria Jiménez Kasintseva Head to Head
Kalinskaya and Kasintseva have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Kalinskaya with a Modest Start to the Season
Kalinskaya looked to have begun her journey of breaking into the top 50 on the WTA charts late last season but things looked to have stalled a little this year.
She has fallen to 60th in the world and while that’s not too bad, Kalinskaya will know she has a few points to defend in the rest of the season. This includes a third round appearance at this very tournament last year.
The Russian does enter the Miami Open on the back of a quarterfinal appearance at the Austin Open and a fighting second round defeat in Indian Wells. Both those losses, in fact, came in three sets after Kalinskaya had won the first set and against players of the likes of Danielle Collins and Karolina Pliskova.
This points to the fact that Kalinskaya looks to have the game to trouble even the top players but can she see through that till the very end. Here, she should start off a favourite but would do well to be cautious a supremely talented and former junior’s Australian Open winner.

Kasintseva Hoping to Build on Her Talent
A former Grand Slam juniors champion, Kasintseva is only 17 years of age and has already caught the eye of many tennis fans around the world.
She had risen to 121st in the world late last year thanks to an ITF circuit title win and would later go on to reach the quarterfinals of a couple of WTA 125 competitions as well.
An under-par finish to 2022 and with Kasintseva having played just two tournaments so far this season – at the Australian Open qualifiers and an ITF competition in Boca Raton on clay – the Andorran has seen her ranking plummet to 194th at the moment.
A wildcard here should help stabilise her ranking but more vitally, Kasintseva will hope to pull off a surprise or two on the WTA circuit now as she looks to get back to her best.
Can she take down Kalinskaya on her Miami debut?
Kalinskaya v Kasintseva Prediction and Tip
Kalinskaya is 7/20 to win this and despite her opponent’s talent, we will have to go with the Russian to grab this. Could see a bit of a fight though.
