Nottingham Forest 2-3 Newcastle – Bruno Guimaraes fires winner as Magpies win five-goal thriller in Premier League – Eurosport

Newcastle sealed back-to-back Premier League away wins with a thrilling 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest.

Bruno Guimaraes scored twice and Fabien Schar added a goal as Newcastle led three times in the match, where they were finally able to get the better of a determined Forest side.

A lively Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi were on target for Forest, but they were made to rue a couple of spurned chances in the first half as Eddie Howe’s side recorded a vital victory on the road.

Three points for Newcastle moved them above Brighton and West Ham and into seventh place as they continued their bid for a European finish.

As for Forest, they missed the chance to add to their lead over those in the relegation zone and remain two points adrift of 18th place.

Talking Point – Newcastle picking up points on the road

In what has been a difficult task for Newcastle this season, they’ve won back-to-back Premier League games away from home for the first time this season.

Eddie Howe’s side have already lost twice as many games (10) in the league this season as they did last campaign (5), so it was vital to avoid defeat on Saturday – especially as Brighton lost earlier in the day – if they are serious about securing a European finish.

Player of the Match – Bruno Guimaraes (Newcastle)

Two goals for the Brazilian and two sensational finishes to earn Newcastle maximum points.

Guimaraes took both goals brilliantly. The first, a thumping volley from a long Kieran Trippier cross, and the second a fine, neat pass into the far corner after some brilliant defensive work.

Match Highlights

5’ – GIBBS-WHITE SHOULD SCORE! Tavares races down the left and cuts a perfect pass back from the byline to Gibbs-White who is arriving on the edge of the box, but he guides his shot wide of the right post. That is a huge chance!

10’ – GOAL!! NOTTINGHAM FOREST 0-1 NEWCASTLE UNITED (GUIMARAES): Miguel Almiron takes a short corner to Kieran Trippier, who sends in a long cross from deep towards Bruno Guimaraes arriving at the back post, and the Brazilian wonderfully volleys the ball back across goal to give Newcastle the lead. What a finish!

16’ – BIG SAVE! Anthony Elanga bursts through on goal but Martin Dubravka makes an excellent low save to deny him. It has been a good response from the home side since they fell behind. They haven’t panicked, kept their composure and really should be level!

26’ – GOAL!! NOTTINGHAM FOREST 1-1 NEWCASTLE UNITED (ELANGA): Hudson-Odoi sparks a Forest counter-attack as he slips the ball to Gibbs-White, who breaks into the Newcastle half with the ball at his feet before threading a ball between Dan Burn and Sven Botman for Elanag to run onto. Elanaga has the pace of both defenders and squeezes in between the pair before slipping the ball under Dubravka. It was coming!

44’ – GOAL!! NOTTINGHAM FOREST 1-2 NEWCASTLE UNITED (SCHAR): Newcastle get the ball forward and Botman heads it into the box where Schar is waiting, before tucking it away with a sublime finish on the half-volley, driving it into the bottom left corner. Beautifully taken from the defender.

45’+6 – GOAL!! NOTTINGHAM FOREST 2-2 NEWCASTLE UNITED (HUDSON-ODOI): Hudson-Odoi drives inside from the left touchline and plays a quick one-two with Nicolas Dominguez on the edge of the box before pulling the trigger. The ball takes a huge deflection off Lewis Miley’s leg before glancing past Dubravka. It’s lucky, but Forest deserve it!

62’ – A HUGE SHOUT FOR A FOREST PENALTY! Awoniyi chases onto a route one ball over the top from Sels and as the ball bounces in front of him, begins to run out of ground before bundling over Dubravka.

67’ – GOAL!! NOTTINGHAM FOREST 2-3 NEWCASTLE UNITED (GUIMARAES): Guimaraes makes a crucial interception in the final third before passing a ball into the bottom right corner from the edge of the box. Newcastle lead for the third time in the match!
