Head coach: Bill Pocernich, 28th season
Assistant coach: Dean Levinski
Returning starters: Senior Tanner Collman and juniors Dylan Nyberg and Brady Dahl.
New faces: Senior Josh Lindman will see an increased varsity role along with juniors Tucker Korpi and Jack Irving, sophomore Lane Gervais and freshman Drew Nyberg.
Key departures: Noah Foster, a two-time All-Conference selection in the Polar League Conference and last year’s Conference MVP, and Liam Schoenberg and Tate Blomquist, who were important rotational players last year.
Impact players and leaders on the roster:
“Our returning starters will be our locker room leaders,” Pocernich said. “As coaches, we need to help them do it in a positive way.”
Strengths of this year’s team:
Pocernich is confident that the raw athleticism and versatile scoring options will be the biggest key to sustained success this season. “(We have) good athleticism and offensive balance.”
Biggest challenge Cromwell-Wright will face this season:
Even with three returning starters, the Cardinals will likely face some adversity early in the season, as Cromwell-Wright has a slightly undersized team that isn’t particularly full of veteran players with significant varsity minutes. “Our (biggest challenge is) lack of size and some inexperience early in the season,” Pocernich said.
Goals or expectations for this season:
“Our goal should be to win our conference,” Pocernich said. “It will be challenging this year, but certainly attainable.”
Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
