Rob Gronkowski In ‘Kick of Destiny 2’ FanDuel Sportsbook Promotion

In 2023, Rob Gronkowski and FanDuel Sportsbook linked up for a sportsbook promotion heard worldwide with the “Kick of Destiny.”

The premise was simple: FanDuel users could bet on whether or not Gronkowski would miss a field goal that he’d take live in the middle of a commercial break during the Big Game.

Bettors could win a share of the $10 million prize pool of “bonus bets” based on whether or not the former tight end made or missed the kick.

While Gronk ended up missing left (the angle and lighting made it look like he made it), fans who participated in the promotion still ended up getting an equal share of the $10 million.

With Gronk set to kick again at the Big Game (aptly titled “Kick of Destiny 2”), here’s a look at what to expect from FanDuel’s promotion this year.

How Does FanDuel’s ‘Kick of Destiny 2’ Work?

FanDuel has opened the promotion tour for this year’s kick with an advertisement featuring a forlorn Gronkowski wandering through the desert, wondering how he missed last year’s kick.

Out of nowhere, John Cena and Carl Weathers, who passed away on Feb. 2 at the age of 76, appear. Cena believes that Gronkowski will miss again this year, while Weathers thinks he can pull it out.

Last year, Gronkowski kicked on a makeshift field somewhere in the Arizona desert. He’ll likely do the same this year at a location in or around Las Vegas. This year’s kick will occur before Super Bowl 58; it’s set to occur around 5:45 p.m. ET on CBS.

Like last year, FanDuel users can pick whether they think Gronkowski will miss or make his kick, with $10 million in bonus bets up for grabs again.

Bettors who correctly select the outcome will receive an equal share of the $10 million cash prize. Eligible customers who picked correctly will begin to receive their bonus bets on Monday, Feb. 12, 2024, and will have to use them within seven days.

How Do You Bet on Rob Gronkowski’s Kick?

You can bet on Gronkowski’s kick using FanDuel’s mobile app or desktop. Here’s how you can do it.

  • The first thing you’ll need to do is confirm you’re located in a state where FanDuel is legal. Then, sign up for FanDuel Sportsbook and enter your personal information so the sportsbook can verify your identity.
  • Once you’ve registered, you can pick whether or not Gronkowski will make or miss his kick. You don’t need to deposit to bet on the kick, though FanDuel will give you $200 in bonus bets if you deposit $10 and win a $5 wager after signing up.
  • To bet on the kick, you’ll need to go to the “Kick of Destiny” section on the site, which is located at the top of the page with a picture of Gronkowski’s head. After clicking on that, you’ll receive a pop-up asking you to pick whether Gronkowski will make or miss.
  • From there, simply click the option you want to select to submit your choice. Bettors have until Sunday afternoon to change their pick.

If your pick is correct, you’ll win an equal share of the $10 million bonus bets prize. The bonus bets will be issued to all winning accounts on Monday.

How Long is Gronk’s Super Bowl Field Goal?

Gronkowski will be kicking a 25-year field goal for ‘Kick of Destiny 2’, which is the same length as last year’s miss. While he had the distance last year, his kick whipped wide left, which was due in part to his shoddy form.

In the 2023 regular season, NFL kickers went 241-for-245 (98.3%) on kicks between 20-29 yards. The Saints’ Blake Grupe missed two field goals from that distance, while Joey Slye and Riley Patterson also both had a miss from that distance.

The other end of that spectrum is Texans running back Dare Ogunbowale, who made a 29-yard field goal last season using a form similar to the one Gronkowski used last year.

For NFL kickers, such a kick would be automatic. But, as Gronkowski proved last year, such a kick isn’t a sure thing for kicking novices. Still, with a year of kicking under his belt, we’re riding with Gronkowski to make his kick this year.

Who is Rob Gronkowski?

A four-time Super Bowl champion, Gronkowski put together an 11-year NFL career with the Patriots and Buccaneers, where he caught 107 touchdown passes, primarily from Tom Brady. Gronk’s first nine seasons came in New England with Brady, where they won Super Bowls in 2014 and ‘18.

He then retired for a season before returning in 2020 where he once again linked up with Brady, only this time the two of them headed south to Tampa Bay and promptly won a Super Bowl. In total, Gronkowski caught five touchdowns in the Super Bowl.

Since retiring, he’s served as an analyst for FOX’s pregame show, along with doing advertisements for FanDuel.

What Can I Bet on at FanDuel?

FanDuel offers an abundance of sports and wagers for bettors. While they’ll have plenty of bets available for the Big Game, they also offer individual bets on every major sport in America along with some international markets.

To place a bet, simply find the sport or bet you want to make and tap on it, which will move it to your betslip at the bottom of the screen. From there, you can add another bet (thus creating a parlay) or place a straight bet. After that, just enter your wager and press submit.

For new users, the best place to start is a moneyline bet, which is only dependent on the team you select winning the game in question.

From there, you could move into spread betting (which gives each team a handicap based on a team winning or losing by a certain amount) or betting the Over/Under, which is when you pick whether the event will go “Over” or “Under” a certain number of points selected by the oddsmakers.

There are also plenty of player props available, which is when you bet on how well (or poorly) you think a specific player will do.
