43 Papa Johns takeaways across the UK are closing for good in 2024

Papa Johns has a pretty devoted UK fanbase – there is, after all, a reason why over the years the pizza chain has accumulated a whopping 450 takeaways across the UK. And if you’re part of that fanbase, we have some terrible news: the brand is set to close dozens of its UK stores for good this year.

The announcement comes after a tough year for hospitality and retail sectors as a whole, with Papa Johns having already bid goodbye to 22 branches in 2023. Here’s everything you need to know about the chain’s plans for ‘additional strategic restaurant closures’.

Why are the stores closing?

In short, the same reason you and I might be cutting back a little on our spending at the mo. The cost-of-living crisis has impacted retail and hospitality more than many other sectors, as consumers spend less on ‘luxury’ goods, and the cost of ingredients and materials rises. So, where we might decide to buy fewer clothes, Papa Johns has to pull the plug on 43 ‘underperforming’ stores in order to keep delivering pizza to your doorstep. Circle of life.
