The arrival of Reynolds/McElhenney enabled Wrexham to start battling with EFL clubs for players with the new ownership willing to match wages from clubs in the division above.

From February 2021 onwards, Wrexham have revamped their first team squad as part of a push to secure promotion.

Exact figures on how much their key stars are earning are unconfirmed by the club, but it’s been rumoured that their highest-paid player is George Evans according to Salary Sport. The figure quoted is £7,200 per week.

According to Capology, Wrexham spent £5,576,400 on their annual payroll. The club’s latest annual report revealed a deficit of nearly $3.7 million (£3 million) for the fiscal year ending June 30th.

Despite this, Wrexham saw a rise in turnover, reaching $7.4 million (£6 million). Reynolds and McElhenney are said to have already invested over $12.4 million (£10 million) in reshaping the League Two newcomers.

“I don’t think we’re necessarily concerned with losing money as much as we are concerned with making the club sustainable, that was always our intent,” said McElhenney in an interview with S4C.

“It is interesting to see a lot of the media that has come out over our annual report from this past year because it is not taking into account so many different things. We don’t respond to it because we know what the truth is, which is that the club is certainly on its way to becoming sustainable and that’s what our goal is.”

Who signs players at Wrexham?

Reynolds played an active role in the club signing Foster with the 46-year-old personally meeting him to complete a deal.

However, he has generally taking a back seat role in talks, with Parkinson still taking the lead in player recruitment, alongside his coaching and scouting teams.
