Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk new fight date, time, odds, undercard & more for 2024 heavyweight boxing fight | Sporting News United Kingdom

Tyson Fury has held a firm grip on boxing’s heavyweight division for years. He faces a former cruiserweight king ready to take over in Oleksandr Usyk, initially set for February 17, but now bumped to May 18 following to a nasty training injury
to the Englishman.

The fight in Saudi Arabia to determine the undisputed heavyweight champion airs on DAZN and ESPN+ PPV.

Fury is a 2008 English National Championships gold medalist. A former English, European, and British heavyweight champion, he beat Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 to become the unified heavyweight champion. He relinquished the belts due to mental health issues and drug and alcohol abuse. Competing in a trilogy against Deontay Wilder, “The Gypsy King” beat Wilder in 2020 to become WBC heavyweight champion.

Briefly retiring in early 2022, Fury then returned to action, beating Derek Chisora. After several social media posts calling out Usyk, Anthony Joshua and others, Fury competed in October, facing former MMA champion Francis Ngannou. He beat “The Predator” but was dropped by Ngannou in round three, succumbing to enough damage to delay the Usyk fight from December to February.

The 35-year-old required eleven stitches following a botched sparring session before the unification fight. He got called out by Eglis Klimas, Usyk’s manager, about potentially looking to duck Usyk. Fury fired back at Klimas during a special episode of The MMA Hour.

“Why would I not want to fight for the biggest payday of my life, and put ten weeks into a training camp,” Fury yelled via MMA Fighting. “Why? Why would I not want to fight? [Usyk] pulled out last time. You’re a piece of s— who’s never had a fight in his life, and you’re calling me a coward, you rat bastard.”

A 2012 Olympic gold medalist, Usyk made his pro debut in 2013. The Ukrainian won the WBO cruiserweight title in 2016 and never looked back. In the 2017-18 World Boxing Super Series tournament, he beat Mairis Briedis for the WBC cruiserweight title and Murat Gassiev in the finals for the WBA, IBF, and Ring championships.

Usyk moved up to heavyweight in 2019 and beat Anthony Joshua via unanimous decision in September 2021 to become the WBA, IBF, and WBO heavyweight champion, winning the Ring belt in a rematch in 2022. His last contest was a controversial win against Daniel Dubois in August to retain the belts.

Over the past few years, fight fans have hoped Fury, Wilder, and Joshua would fight one another. Following delays, losses, and drama, there’s an alternate path to determine who holds all the gold at heavyweight. Who will be crowned the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis beat Evander Holyfield in 1999?
