When is Man United vs. Newcastle? Date, time of 2024 Premier League game postponed due to FA Cup semifinals | Sporting News United Kingdom

Manchester United might just have saved their season — and their manager’s job — with their remarkable FA Cup win over Liverpool in March.

The Red Devils’ 4-3 victory at Old Trafford sparked wild celebrations in the stands and ensured the 20-time champions of England still have hope of winning the FA Cup, their last remaining realistic chance of silverware in 2023/24.

Pressure has been building on Erik ten Hag throughout a disappointing season, and the arrival of new minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe — whose INEOS group has taken over sporting decisions at the football club — has only intensified speculation over the manager’s future.

The chance to win the FA Cup could well be a boost to Ten Hag’s hopes of a third season in charge. However, so too could qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League via a top-four (or, perhaps, a top-five) finish in the league. Newcastle, who are also bidding to qualify for Europe to rescue a difficult season, had been due to visit Old Trafford for a league match over the weekend of April 20-21, but that game has now been moved.

The Sporting News has the latest on a possible new date for that fixture and why it had to be called off in the first place.

When is Man United vs. Newcastle? Date, time of Premier League game

Man United’s home game against Newcastle United was slated for the weekend of April 20-21, but the potential clash with the FA Cup semifinals means the fixture has been postponed.

The has officially been rearranged for Wednesday, May 15, at 8 p.m. local time (3 p.m. ET). That’s just three days after Man United host title challengers Arsenal, and four days before the Premier League season concludes.

Why was Man United vs. Newcastle postponed?

This game had to be moved after Manchester United reached the semifinals of the 2023/24 FA Cup.

The Red Devils progressed to the final four after an incredible win over Liverpool at Old Trafford at the quarterfinal stage. Substitute Amad Diallo scored the decisive goal in the dying seconds of extra time to give Erik ten Hag’s men a 4-3 win and end the quadruple dreams of Jurgen Klopp.

United face Coventry City in the cup semifinals at Wembley Stadium.
